2024 was a difficult year for my family. We lost our beloved Gramma Pennie (100). Mom and I were in a traumatic car accident, that thankfully only left minor injuries, but resurfaced so many emotions surrounding the car accident that took my dad years ago. Hurricane Helene completely destroyed my mom’s home, and she was forced to move in with us. During that time, I began to see her in a whole new way. I started asking questions I hadn’t thought to ask previously about her life and who she was before she became a mom. I unpacked what I was feeling and learning in a therapeutic songwriting session with my friend Maia Sharp, and See You Now was born. I hope it inspires a curiosity that leads others to ask their parents, grandparents, and mentors deeper questions while they still have time..
